More Details on Our Top Picks
WuYan FS-2006 DE Grid Pool Filter Compatible with FC-9560, PFS3672, FS-2006, DEX7200DA, 72 Sq.Ft
This filter set stands out for its robust construction and compatibility with a range of models like FC-9560 and DEX7200DA, making it a reliable choice for long-term use. Unlike the In The Swim grids, which prioritize universal fit, the WuYan FS-2006 emphasizes durability, but its weight—over 27 pounds—may pose installation challenges, especially for smaller setups. Its multiple grids extend lifespan, reducing replacement frequency. However, the limited model compatibility means it’s not suitable for all systems, and the lack of detailed warranty info leaves some uncertainty about long-term support.
Pros:- Effective filtration of fine particles, hair, and dust
- Durable materials ensure long lifespan
- Includes multiple grids for extended use
Cons:- Heavy weight may require sturdy installation
- Compatibility limited to specific pool models
Best for: Pool owners seeking a durable, long-lasting filter compatible with specific models and willing to handle heavier units.
Not ideal for: Homeowners with lightweight pool systems or those who prefer broad compatibility over longevity, as the weight and limited compatibility may be inconvenient.
- Product Dimensions:11 x 9 x 36 inches
- Item Weight:27.3 pounds
- Filtration Area:72 Sq.ft
- Compatible Models:FC-9560, PFS3672, FS-2006, DEX7200DA
Our verdict“This pick suits those who prioritize long-term durability and specific compatibility over ease of handling or broader fit.”
In The Swim 72 sq. ft. Complete DE Pool Filter Grid Set (7 Full, 1 Partial) AA18001
This set offers broad compatibility with many brand-specific filters like Hayward and Pentair, making it highly adaptable for diverse pool systems. Compared with the Hayward ProGrid, which is designed specifically for larger capacity, the In The Swim set excels in fitting multiple models, but its weight—over 25 pounds—and tight fit if not installed properly can complicate setup. Its woven polypropylene construction provides excellent chemical and mildew resistance, yet the universal design means it may sacrifice some perfect fit for broad compatibility, occasionally requiring finesse during installation.
Pros:- Resists rot, mildew, and chemicals effectively
- Easy to install with snap-lock frame
- Compatible with multiple brands and models
Cons:- Heavy weight may require assistance during installation
- Tight fit if not installed carefully
Best for: Pool owners with multiple or mixed-brand systems seeking a reliable, easy-to-install replacement grid set.
Not ideal for: Buyers with very specific brand requirements or smaller pools, as the universal fit may not be ideal for niche applications.
- Product Dimensions:38.1 x 14.8 x 14.8 inches
- Item Weight:25.1 pounds
- Compatibility:American, Astral, Hayward, Jandy, Pac-Fab, Pentair, Waterway
- Material:Woven polypropylene resins
Our verdict“Ideal for users who need a versatile, chemical-resistant grid set compatible with several brands and models.”
Hayward ProGrid 60 Square Foot High Capacity DE Pool Filter
The Hayward ProGrid offers a higher capacity at 60 sq. ft., making it suited for large, high-demand inground pools. While its high flow rate of 120 GPM surpasses smaller filters, it may be too complex for casual pool owners to install and maintain without prior experience. The durable, corrosion-resistant glass-reinforced copolymer ensures longevity, but the slightly smaller filtration surface than 72 sq. ft. models means it might need more frequent cleaning in heavily used pools. Its easy-access clamp simplifies maintenance, but weight and complexity could be drawbacks for some.
Pros:- High capacity ideal for large pools
- Efficient water clarity and filtration
- Corrosion-resistant, durable build
Cons:- Installation may be complex for beginners
- Requires DE media replacement
Best for: Large pool owners prioritizing high capacity and efficient filtration with straightforward maintenance.
Not ideal for: Amateurs or small pool owners who prefer simple, lightweight systems, as this filter is heavier and more complex to handle.
- Filter Area:60 sq. ft.
- Flow Rate:120 GPM
- Material:Glass-reinforced copolymer
- Type:Diatomaceous earth (DE) filter
Our verdict“Best suited for large pools needing high flow and capacity, with some technical knowledge for installation.”

This set emphasizes compatibility with a variety of popular brands like Hayward and Jandy, making it a flexible choice for pool owners who want quick replacements. Compared with the WuYan set, which is more durable but limited in compatibility, these grids prioritize broad fit and ease of installation, though their fit may sometimes be tight if not matched precisely. Made from Micro Glass-Fibre materials, they are easy to clean and maintain, but lack detailed price info, which could affect decision-making for budget-conscious buyers.
Pros:- Compatible with many popular models
- Easy to install and clean
- Made with durable Micro Glass-Fibre materials
Cons:- Price information not specified
- Proper fitting is essential for optimal performance
Best for: Pool owners who need a versatile, easy-to-clean replacement grid compatible with multiple brand models.

It features a straightforward design that makes installation and cleaning easier, comparable to the Hayward set, but with some slight fitment inconsistencies reported by users. It’s a sensible choice for those who want longevity at a moderate price, but not for anyone seeking premium fit or top-tier reviews.
Pros:- Compatible with multiple popular models
- Durable construction for long-lasting use
- Easy to clean and maintain
Cons:- Moderate customer rating indicates some fitment issues

Factors to Consider When Choosing De Pool Filter 72 Sq Ft
Choosing the right DE pool filter 72 sq ft involves understanding several key factors that impact performance, longevity, and ease of use. Beyond simply matching the square footage, it’s important to consider compatibility, build quality, and maintenance needs. Making an informed decision helps ensure your pool stays clean and your filtration system remains reliable over time.Compatibility with Pool System
Ensuring your filter fits with your existing pool pump and plumbing is essential. Many filters are designed to match specific brands like Hayward, Jandy, or Pentair, so double-checking compatibility prevents costly upgrades or replacements. Some models, like the Poolzilla 72 Sq Ft DE Grid Set, offer broad compatibility, making them versatile for various setups.
Build Quality and Material Durability
Durability influences how long your filter will perform without issues. High-quality materials such as ABS plastics and corrosion-resistant grids resist wear from pool chemicals and weather. While premium filters often cost more upfront, they tend to last longer and require fewer replacements, which can save money over time.
Ease of Installation and Maintenance
Look for models with straightforward installation procedures and accessible grid replacement options. Some filters, like the Hurricane HF-DE72-SET, are designed for quick setup, reducing downtime. Regular cleaning of grids and parts is necessary to maintain filtration efficiency, so consider how easy it is to access and clean the filter components.
Filtration Capacity and Performance
Matching the filter’s capacity to your pool size ensures effective cleaning. A 72 sq ft filter like these is suitable for medium to large pools, but some models offer higher flow rates or better backwashing features. Investing in a slightly larger capacity filter can improve performance, especially in high-use or heavily chlorinated pools.
Price and Overall Value
While premium models cost more, they often come with enhanced durability and features that justify the investment. Conversely, budget-friendly options may suffice for occasional use or smaller pools but could require more frequent replacements or upgrades. Balancing initial cost with long-term savings is key to making the right purchase decision.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if a 72 sq ft DE filter fits my pool system?
To determine compatibility, check your pool’s existing pump and plumbing specifications. Most filters specify the flow rate and connection sizes—matching these details ensures a proper fit. Many models are designed to be versatile, but confirming the manufacturer’s guidelines can prevent installation issues and additional costs.
Are higher capacity filters worth the extra cost?
Higher capacity filters typically provide better performance, especially for larger or high-usage pools. They tend to last longer and handle more debris, which can reduce maintenance frequency. However, if your pool is smaller or lightly used, a 72 sq ft filter may be sufficient without extra expense, so consider your pool size and cleaning habits.
What maintenance does a DE pool filter require?
Regular maintenance involves cleaning the grids and replacing them when worn out, usually once a season or as needed. Proper backwashing and periodic chemical cleaning help keep the filter functioning optimally. Choosing a model with accessible grids and straightforward cleaning procedures can make this routine easier and less time-consuming.
Can I upgrade my existing filter to a 72 sq ft model?
Upgrading depends on your current system’s compatibility and space constraints. Many filters are adaptable, but you should verify the connection sizes and flow rate specifications. Upgrading can improve filtration, but ensure your pump can handle the increased load if you switch to a larger or more efficient model.
Is it better to buy a generic replacement or a branded filter?
Branded filters often guarantee better compatibility, build quality, and durability, reducing the risk of leaks or failure. Generic replacements may be more affordable upfront but can vary significantly in quality, potentially leading to more frequent replacements and maintenance issues. Balancing cost with reliability is key when choosing between them.
